The Dean of Thi-Qar Technical College Participates in the Second Edition of the Iraq Higher Education Conference 2025

The Dean of Thi-Qar Technical College, Professor Dr. Hussein Twakan Abdullah, participated in the second edition of the Iraq Higher Education Conference 2025, which was attended by the President of the Southern Technical University, Professor Dr. Adnan Abdullah Atiq, along with international experts and representatives of prestigious institutions such as Times Higher Education (THE), Clarivate, Elsevier, QS, and the Egyptian Knowledge Bank.

The conference was inaugurated by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, who affirmed that Iraqi universities have entered a new phase of achievement and leadership. He noted that the progress made in higher education and scientific research over the past three years represents a profound transformation in the vision of university education. Dr. Al-Aboudi emphasized that Iraq has now become a platform for innovation and academic internationalization, attracting students and researchers from around the world.

The Minister also highlighted that Iraqi universities have secured advanced positions in international rankings and have established a strong presence in global research databases. He reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to expanding positive partnerships with international institutions to enhance Iraq’s position on the global academic map.

The conference witnessed broad participation from representatives of international organizations, including Nick Davis from Times Higher Education, Sharif Ali Al-Shami, Vice President of Clarivate, Dr. Diaa Medhat from Elsevier, Dr. Ola Lawrence, Advisor to the Egyptian Knowledge Bank, and Dr. Talal Yousef, representative of QS International. The event was also attended by senior ministry officials, the President of the Iraqi Academics Syndicate, university presidents (both public and private), college deans, and representatives of diplomatic missions.

Professor Dr. Hussein Twakan Abdullah, Dean of Thi-Qar Technical College, emphasized that the college’s participation in the conference aims to strengthen the international presence of Iraqi universities and enhance academic cooperation with global institutions. He stressed the importance of exchanging expertise and benefiting from international experiences to further develop higher education and scientific research in Iraq.
