Thi-Qar Technical College Organizes a Training Workshop Entitled “Explanation of Civil Defense and Occupational Safety Concepts”

Thi-Qar Technical College organized on Tuesday, August 6, 2025, a training workshop entitled “Explanation of Civil Defense and Occupational Safety Concepts” as part of a series of awareness programs aimed at promoting a culture of safety and prevention within the academic environment.

The workshop was held under the patronage of the Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Hussein Tukan Abdullah, and was directly supervised by the Women’s Affairs Unit, represented by Ms. Iman Kareem Hussein, in cooperation with the Civil Defense Directorate.

The event was attended officially by the Assistant Dean for Scientific and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Shawqi Khalaf Mohammed, the Assistant Dean for Administrative and Technical Affairs, Asst. Prof. Dr. Hassan Talib Hashem, and the representative of the Deputy Governor, Mr. Hussam Adel Al-Saeedi.

The lecture was delivered by the Head of the CBRN Division, Chemical Colonel Haider Falah Hassan, who began with a legal overview of Civil Defense Law No. (44) of 2013, followed by a review of the main specialized departments of the directorate and their respective duties. He presented a comprehensive briefing on the fundamental principles of civil defense, methods of risk prevention, emergency response mechanisms, in addition to both theoretical and practical training on the use of firefighting equipment and rapid evacuation procedures.

During his speech, the Colonel stressed that awareness of safety procedures is one of the most essential pillars for protecting lives and property, highlighting the need to activate preventive awareness programs in academic institutions. The focus was also placed on communication methods with the emergency response hotline for fire incidents via number (911), as well as the importance of rapid reporting to minimize response time, control incidents, and reduce human losses.

The workshop also witnessed active participation from the college’s faculty and staff, who commended the importance of such activities through their interventions and engagement with the workshop’s themes.

In conclusion, the College Presidency expressed its gratitude and appreciation to Colonel Haider Falah Hassan for his dedicated efforts, valuing his constructive cooperation in promoting a culture of public safety, and affirming the continuation of organizing similar workshops for their vital role in building a safe and sustainable educational environment.
