The Department of Cybersecurity Engineering Technologies at Thi-Qar Technical College organized a scientific seminar titled “Modern Trends in Computer Networks and Cybersecurity”, presented by Dr. Ahmed Abbas Jasim. The seminar was attended by the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs and Students, Professor Dr. Shawqi Khalaf Mohammed, along with a number of faculty members, staff, and students.
The seminar aimed to introduce the concept of Cybersecurity, explaining that it encompasses the protection of electronic devices, networks, software systems, and the safeguarding of critical digital data from threats and cyberattacks to ensure the smooth and secure continuation of business operations and digital interactions.
It addressed various fields of cybersecurity, including critical infrastructure security, network security, endpoint security, application security, cloud security, information security, and mobile security.
The discussion also covered the risks associated with social media platforms, data privacy, the importance of verifying information sources, and raising awareness of cybersecurity threats.
Additionally, the seminar presented common types of cyberattacks, such as viruses, malware, distributed attacks, and phishing attacks, explaining their impact on devices and data.
The session concluded with a discussion on the key drivers of cybersecurity trends and modern network engineering.
