The University Psychological Counseling Unit at Thi Qar Technical College organized an awareness workshop entitled “Preservation of Life and Suicide Prevention in Islam,” dedicated to the college’s students. The workshop was delivered by Assistant Lecturer Karrar Haider Shaheen as part of the college’s programs aimed at promoting mental health and building value-based awareness among students.
The workshop addressed the principle of the sanctity of human life in Islamic law, explaining that the preservation of life is one of the greatest objectives of Islam. It also emphasized the importance of adhering to religious and humanitarian values in confronting psychological pressures and life challenges.
The workshop aimed to raise students’ awareness of the dangers of despair and hopelessness, and to reinforce the values of patience, hope, and optimism. It also sought to instill concepts of social solidarity and mutual psychological support, contributing to the prevention of self-harming behaviors and the development of a psychologically and spiritually balanced personality.
The workshop witnessed positive interaction from students through discussions and questions, which helped convey its awareness messages and strengthen the role of psychological counseling in supporting and assisting students within the university environment.
